JKV Contributes Over $17,000 to Support Alzheimer’s Association
POMPANO BEACH – 11/18/11 – On Wednesday, November 16, more than 80 residents and employees at John Knox Village participated in the 12th Annual Memory Walk. This year’s highly successful event raised more than $17,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
“The Alzheimer’s Association is one of those special organizations that we look forward to supporting each year,” Robert Scharmann, John Knox Village President and CEO, said. “Hopefully, what we accomplished today will encourage you with your mission that we continue to support research and other things that will lead us to positive outcomes.”
The event began with music performed by the resident band Joyful Noize, followed by a group photo and a brief warm-up session coordinated by The Village’s fitness professionals.
Participants then walked around Lake Maggie and ended in the Auditorium for refreshments and a donation presentation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
“The residents and employees here are so much fun. They truly have hearts of gold and care about our cause. Thank you, and we are grateful for all that you have done for us,” said Linda Shaifer, Alzheimer’s Association Walk Manager.
One of the key residents who contributed her efforts to making this fundraiser a success is Lillian Kimmel, who lost her beloved husband, Solomon, to Alzheimer’s disease. Each year, since the inaugural walk, Lillian has proven her advocacy by raising substantial donations – this year totaling more than $10,000. The balance of the funds was generously contributed by residents, employees and The Village’s Sharing and Caring Program.
