National Organization Rewards Village for Excellence in the Workplace
POMPANO BEACH – 10/25/11 – Each year, LeadingAge (formerly the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging), honors those who embody excellence in leadership, innovation in care and service, and who are making outstanding contributions to their communities and the senior housing field.
On October 18, at the 2011 LeadingAge Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., John Knox Village was the recipient of this year’s Excellence in the Workplace Award. This honor recognizes organizations that demonstrate effectiveness in fostering and advancing a healthy workplace culture and an environment that promotes the recruitment, retention and development of staff at all levels in the organization.
The Village has remained a stable, strong employer of choice during recent uncertainties in the economy by providing competitive compensation and cutting-edge benefits for more than 650 employees. John Knox Village continues to encourage and support ongoing learning and healthy lifestyles. The Village fosters high regard for its mission of care and corporate integrity through extensive education for board and employees alike.
A “Health for Life” program offers employees free monthly wellness screenings, an exercise boot camp, gym and weight loss reimbursement, an on-site walking path, workshops and other healthy options. Health insurance includes incentive discounts, generic drug reimbursement and other offerings. Just as appreciated are unique services such as appliance giveaways, car service, thrift sales and financial workshops.
John Knox Village’s employee-funded programs portray the spirit of its employees. Through interest-free employee hardship loans and gifts, and paid-time-off sharing, staff members help one another when facing unexpected financial, health and family crises. Most touching are resident directed and funded programs that benefit staff, such as a resident-funded scholarship program that has awarded nearly 200 college scholarships valued up to $12,000 per employee since 1995. Resident mentoring and a computer give-away program are two more ways that The Village offers its staff the opportunity, faith and support to succeed.
According to its Website (www.leadingage.org), LeadingAge is an association of 5,600 not-for-profit organizations dedicated to expanding the world of possibilities for aging.
