Senior Crimestoppers Program Honors JKV President
POMPANO BEACH – 10/18/11 – On October 7, the nationally-acclaimed crime prevention program, Senior Crimestoppers, provided by the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation, presented the 2011 Marvelous Award to Robert P. Scharmann, President and CEO of John Knox Village in Pompano Beach, during the Foundation’s annual conference in New York City.
The “Marvelous” award was created to honor the nursing home industry’s top nursing home administrator. This annual award was created in memory of the late Mr. Marvin Silver who dedicated his life to exhibiting excellence in the care of the elderly. The Marvelous Award is given annually to one nursing home administrator, chosen from their peers, as exemplifying the highest quality of care, compassion, positive promotion of the long term care industry and responsibility of the job. These are all traits that Marvin Silver demonstrated throughout his active life and nursing home management career. They will now be remembered through this annual award as the “standard of excellence”.
Mr. Scharmann has been dedicated to the care of the elderly and the long-term care industry for more than 28 years. September marked his 13th Anniversary as the President and CEO of John Knox Village. Under the watchful eye of Mr. Scharmann, The Village has been elevated to one of the highest rated Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) in the State of Florida.
As the sixth largest single-site CCRC in the United States, John Knox Village is dedicated to providing a protective, supportive environment in which the residents may thrive as their physical, social, emotional and spiritual well being is addressed. The interdisciplinary care team is comprised of 650 talented people who are all committed to providing excellent care in a compassionate and caring manner.
Mr. Scharmann is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and a certified Nursing Home Preceptor. He has had the privilege of serving on the board of directors of the Florida Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and the North Ridge Medical Center. Mr. Scharmann was honored when Governor Jeb Bush appointed him to chair the Continuing Care Advisory Council for the State of Florida from 2000-2005.
Previous recognitions for Mr. Scharmann and the Village have included 2011 winner of the Excellence in the Workplace Award from LeadingAge (formerly the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging), the Business of the Year in Health Care for Southeast Florida, the Executive of the Year Award and the Businessman of the Year Award.
